For anyone who has ever been dizzy, the answer to this question is "too fast!" Of course, that's not a very scientific answer.
The earth actually spins at a pretty moderate speed, compared to some of the other planets in our solar system. For example, Jupiter rotates so quickly that one day on the planet only lasts about 10 hours. By contrast, a day on Earth lasts 24 hours. So why does it feel like the Earth is spinning so fast sometimes?
Well, it all has to do with how we perceive movement. Our brain is constantly taking in information about our surroundings and making calculations based on that information. When we suddenly move or change direction, it can take a moment for our brain to catch up.
That lag can result in the feeling of being dizzy or disoriented. So next time you're feeling a little off balance, just remember that it's all in your head...literally!
